Which is why it is worth reading what we say about it for two people.
The three forms

Why it rarely works for two
The maths is unsentimental. A six-bedroom house has a nightly rate built for six bedrooms, and two people in it are paying for four empty ones plus the staff to service them.
And what it buys — the absence of other guests — is the layer with the shallowest return for a couple, because you already have your own vehicle and guide all day, and the eight other people you would have met at dinner are usually the best part of the evening.
The exception: a private mobile camp
This is the one form of exclusive use we would actively suggest to a couple, and for a reason that has nothing to do with exclusivity.
A mobile camp is built where you want to be, which is frequently somewhere no fixed camp exists. You are not buying the absence of other guests; you are buying a location that is otherwise unavailable, and the privacy is a side effect.
It is not for everyone — it is canvas, bucket showers in some cases, and genuinely remote — but for a couple who want two nights of something they will describe for the rest of their lives, it does what a villa does not.
If you do take exclusive use, check these
- Minimum nights. Most have one, often three or four.
- Minimum party size or a floor rate, particularly on peak dates.
- What "own vehicle" means. One vehicle for six is not two for six.
- Whether the guide is included or priced on top. It is frequently on top.
- Whether exclusivity extends to the land. Exclusive use of a camp is not always exclusive use of the concession it sits on.
What we would suggest instead, for two
A private vehicle and a private guide at a small owner-run camp, plus deck dinners on two nights.
You get the solitude where it matters — all day, in the field — and company only when you choose it. It costs a fraction of a buyout and, for most couples, it is the better trip.
